About the role#
Charles County Public Schools is looking for high school students to join our team as Lab Assistants at the James E. Richmond Science Center. This is a paid, temporary position for students at least 16 years old who have completed two years of high school. You will support the daily operations of the center and interact with visitors of all ages.
What you'll do#
- Manage ticket and gift shop sales while monitoring the lobby area.
- Assist attendees with science lab activities and check-in procedures.
- Provide short presentations for visitors as needed.
- Help with daily setup and cleanup tasks.
- Interact with attendees to ensure a positive experience.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Strong math and science skills with knowledge of sound lab practices.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility, integrity, and a willingness to learn.
- Comfort working with children of all age groups.
- Preference is given to those with prior volunteer experience at a science center or similar venue, or experience working with children.
Location & details#
- Location: La Plata, Maryland.
- Schedule: This role requires the ability to work flexible hours and weekends.
- Physical requirements: You must be able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The role involves lifting, carrying, or moving weights between 10 and 50 pounds. You will need good hand-eye coordination and the ability to use a keyboard.
