About the role#
The Ultrasound Extern supports the diagnostic imaging team at Centra Health. You will work under the direction of a licensed sonographer to perform exams and assist with patient care. This role involves using Cerner and Hospital Information System software to manage imaging workflows.
What you'll do#
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound exams under the supervision of a licensed sonographer.
- Assist technologists with imaging procedures and patient preparation.
- Transport patients between hospital departments using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds.
- Explain procedures to patients using the AIDET process to ensure comfort and safety.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and manage equipment.
- Practice aseptic techniques and infection control consistent with hospital policy.
- Handle portable O2 tanks and regulate flow as needed.
- Manage patient hand-offs and report any unmet patient needs to a sonographer.
- Secure and return supplies.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment as a student entering the spring semester of an Ultrasound program.
- Letter of recommendation from your Sonography Program Director.
- BLS certification.
