About the role#
The Advocacy Fellow assists the Investment and Powerbuilding teams with the Advocacy Leadership Committee (ALC). This program prepares participants to become effective advocates for change. Fellows join the Emerging Leaders Program for professional development and mentorship, and work toward a Certificate in Social Justice for Community Organizing. This is a six-month fellowship.
What you'll do#
- Facilitate and instruct training sessions for ALC cohorts.
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and recruitment for cohorts.
- Prepare and distribute materials to new members.
- Document engagement activities in Salesforce or Google Sheets.
- Represent the organization in external coalitions and campaigns.
- Conduct trainings on policy campaigns both remotely and in-person.
- Contribute to campaign goals through blogs, interviews, or testimony.
- Attend meetings with local partners and identify collaboration opportunities.
What you'll need#
- You are a natural leader with a strong desire to change the status quo.
- You have lived experience in the legal system and act as a credible messenger.
- You possess an optimistic outlook and a growth mindset.
- You are comfortable learning from mistakes and trying again.
- Experience in community organizing is preferred.
Location & details#
- This role is based in New York, New York.
- The position is hybrid, requiring at least two days per week in the local office.
- The fellowship is paid and part-time, typically ranging from 20 to 30 hours per week.
