Research and Development Summer Intern, Chemical Modeling

About the role#

Carpenter Co. offers an 11-week, full-time Research and Development summer internship at the Reinhart Technical Center in Richmond, Virginia. The program begins May 26, 2026, and focuses on evaluating, refining, and standardizing laboratory quality test procedures under the guidance of a senior mentor.

What you'll do#

• Research the modeling of FT-NIR spectra to measure polyol properties.
• Conduct basic laboratory experiments.
• Collect, record, and report data.
• Interpret experimental results and draw conclusions.
• Document all findings in a formal report.

What you'll need#

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of at least 2 years of college or university in Data Analytics, Data Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 2.75 GPA.
• Completion of 2 semesters of college laboratory coursework.
• Ability to perform rudimentary chemical lab experiments under safety and management direction.
• Basic proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
