Industrial Engineer Summer Internship

About the role#

Carpenter Co. offers an 11-week, full-time Industrial Engineering summer internship at our foam manufacturing plant in Elkhart, Indiana. Starting May 26, 2026, you will work under the guidance of a senior mentor to study and report on cycle times within the Laminated Mattress department's kitting process, providing metrics to ensure appropriate resources for production flow.

What you'll do#

• Create a spreadsheet to predict staffing and time requirements for the next day’s production schedule, ensuring kitting output meets production needs.
• Study material flow and identify potential improvements for storing and moving materials to production lines.
• Perform a cost analysis comparing the current kitting process to the potential use of an Elektrotek picking robot.

What you'll need#

• Completion of at least 2 years of Industrial Engineering coursework with a minimum 2.75 GPA.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong communication skills, including active listening and clear verbal and written communication.
• Creative and analytical problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation quality.
