Research and Development Summer Intern, Chemical Modeling

About the role#

Carpenter Co. is offering an 11-week, full-time Research and Development summer internship at the Reinhart Technical Center in Richmond, Virginia. This position begins on May 26, 2026, and involves evaluating, refining, and standardizing laboratory quality test procedures under the guidance of a senior mentor.

What you'll do#

• Research the modeling of FT-NIR spectra for the measurement of polyol properties.
• Conduct basic chemical laboratory experiments.
• Collect, record, and report technical data.
• Interpret data to draw conclusions.
• Document findings in a formal report format.

What you'll need#

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of at least 2 years of college or university coursework in Data Analytics, Data Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 2.75 GPA.
• Completion of 2 semesters of college laboratory curriculum.
• Ability to perform rudimentary chemical lab experiments under management and safety direction.
• Basic proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
