Research and Development Summer Intern, Analytical Chemistry

About the role#

Carpenter Co. is offering a 12-week, full-time Research and Development summer internship at the Reinhart Technical Center in Richmond, Virginia. This position begins May 26, 2026, and involves performing laboratory research functions under the guidance of a senior mentor.

What you'll do#

• Generate QDa results for new products produced in the Pilot Plant.
• Introduce varying levels of polymeric and non-polymeric impurities into polyols to determine sensitivity for detection.
• Conduct basic laboratory experiments.
• Document all findings in a formal report.

What you'll need#

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of at least two years of college or university coursework in Chemistry with a minimum 2.75 GPA.
• Completion of at least two semesters of a college laboratory curriculum.
• Ability to perform rudimentary chemical lab experiments under management and safety direction.
• Basic proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
