Industrial Engineer Summer Internship

About the role#

Carpenter Co. offers an 11-week Industrial Engineering summer internship at our foam manufacturing plant in Elkhart, Indiana. This full-time, paid position begins May 26, 2026. Under the guidance of a senior mentor, you will study and report on cycle times within the Laminated Mattress department's kitting process to ensure appropriate resources for production flow.

What you'll do#

• Create a spreadsheet that predicts the staffing and time needed to kit the next day’s production schedule to ensure production targets are met.
• Study material flow and report on potential improvements for storing and moving materials to production lines.
• Conduct a cost analysis comparing the current kitting process to the potential use of an Elektrotek picking robot.
• Provide metrics to monitor and support production flow.

What you'll need#

• Completion of at least two years (four semesters) in an Industrial Engineering program with a minimum 2.75 GPA.
• Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong communication skills, including active listening and clear verbal and written communication.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Creative, analytical problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation quality.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
