About the role#
This position offers hands-on experience in petroleum geology. You will work with experienced geologists on exploration and development projects. Assignments may take place in a core lab, at a head office, or at an active mine site. You will gain training in 3D modeling, geological software, and field techniques while contributing to practical workflows.
What you'll do#
- Prepare mapping, cross-sections, and interpretations for development programs.
- Review and describe core samples to understand depositional environments.
- Prepare government applications and assist with drilling program planning.
- Evaluate bypassed pay and develop skills in petrophysical log interpretation and facies analysis.
- Communicate findings to asset teams and management through project presentations.
- Support mining operations by validating geological models and reviewing mine development.
- Participate in core drilling, deposit characterization, and geotechnical or hydrogeological studies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Geology, or recent graduation from an accredited institution.
- Ability to work independently and within interdisciplinary teams.
- A sense of ownership and responsibility for project outcomes.
- Physical and mental fitness for work.
- For mining assignments: a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent and successful completion of pre-employment drug screening.
Location & details#
- Locations: Calgary, Alberta (Head Office) or Fort McMurray, Alberta (Horizon or Albian Sands).
- Terms: 4 or 8 months starting in January, May, or September 2027.
- Work modality: On-site, full-time.
- Shift schedules: 5 days on, 2 days off (8 hours/day) in Calgary; 4 days on, 3 days off (10 hours/day) at oilsands sites.
- Compensation: This is a paid position.
