About the role#
This position offers engineering students the chance to work within our Plant Operations team at our Oil Sands facilities. You will gain hands-on experience in Reliability Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or Sustaining Capital Projects. You will work alongside engineers, operations, and maintenance teams to support critical equipment, plant infrastructure, and capital improvement projects. This role involves investigating equipment failures, analyzing performance data, and supporting facility modifications to improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our operations.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with project and operations teams to ensure alignment with operational requirements.
- Participate in developing cost-effective strategies for equipment that is problematic in the field.
- Assist engineers in producing maintenance work packages.
- Gather field measurements and data to support engineering analysis.
- Maintain and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Assist engineers in calculating weekly and monthly reliability Key Performance Indicators.
- Review assets and data to improve maintenance frequency and equipment uptime.
- Ensure optimal performance of critical electrical components.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. All other engineering disciplines will be considered.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Good understanding of rotating equipment components, pumps, pressure vessels, pressure piping, and valves.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract.
- Experience in computer programming or coding, such as Python, VBA, or SQL, is considered an asset.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening test.
Location & details#
- Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta (Albian or Horizon Oil Sands Site).
- Term lengths: 8 or 12 months.
- Term starts: January or September 2027.
- Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10-hour shifts (Monday to Thursday).
- This is a safety-sensitive position.
- Company-sponsored fly-in/fly-out available from Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta.
