About the role#
The Student Development Director serves as the operational anchor for the Cal Alumni Association headquarters while supporting the professional growth and financial wellness of UC Berkeley students. You will report to the Senior Director of Facilities Operations and manage a team of front desk staff alongside a permanent cohort of undergraduate interns. This role focuses on scaling the student intern unit, managing facility hospitality, and overseeing workspace strategy.
What you'll do#
- Architect and execute a growth strategy to scale the student intern unit into an integrated workforce.
- Design and facilitate a professional development and career-readiness curriculum for interns.
- Oversee the administration, tracking, and compliance of student experiential stipends.
- Partner with campus departments and the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office to coordinate student placement and stipend eligibility.
- Direct daily visitor experience, security protocols, and phone routing for the headquarters.
- Manage the physical layout of the student workspace to maximize utility and ensure safety compliance.
- Formulate the front desk operational budget and track program data, including student retention and career placement metrics.
What you'll need#
- 4-6 years of experience in student affairs, higher education administration, hospitality management, facilities operations, or front-office leadership.
- Deep understanding of the modern higher education environment.
- Proven success maintaining oversight over complex business units.
- Demonstrated capability with spatial planning and workspace optimization.
- Familiarity with higher education financial frameworks.
- Ability to mentor students while managing operational staff and briefing executive leadership.
- Preferred: Experience working within the University of California ecosystem and collaborating with financial aid departments.

- Compensation: $85,000 - $105,000 annualized
