About the role#
The Liberty and National Security Program works to protect constitutional values and the rule of law. We focus on policy reform at the intersection of national security, immigration, and law enforcement. This includes addressing high-tech surveillance and protecting privacy and First Amendment rights. We are looking for law students to join our New York office for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
Interns work alongside our staff on research and policy advocacy. You will be involved in the following activities:
- Conduct legal research and writing for policy reports and advocacy documents.
- Draft communications for legislators.
- Assist with writing comments to federal agencies.
- Attend coalition meetings.
- Draft posts for the Brennan Center blog.
- Support programmatic and strategic planning.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current law student.
- Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills.
- Initiative, imagination, and a versatile approach to your work.
- A genuine interest in Liberty and National Security policy issues.
Location & details#
- This role is based on-site in New York, New York.
- The internship takes place during the Winter 2027 term.
- This is a paid position, though specific school policies regarding credit or funding may apply.
