The Brennan Center for Justice is seeking an undergraduate intern to support IT and cybersecurity operations for the Fall 2026 term. This role provides hands-on experience in technical support, network troubleshooting, and security monitoring within a nonpartisan law and policy institute. This is a paid, part-time position requiring 10–20 hours per week from September through December 2026.
What you'll do#
- Assist with daily technology operations and cybersecurity monitoring.
- Provide desktop, telephone, and remote help desk support to staff.
- Manage audiovisual (AV) setup and troubleshooting for meetings and events.
- Support collaboration platforms including Microsoft 365, Zoom, and Slack.
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues and support wired and wireless network access.
- Assist with hardware tasks, including imaging, upgrading, and repairing computers and peripherals.
- Help manage security tools such as endpoint protection, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and vulnerability scanners.
- Contribute to cybersecurity awareness training and documentation of security policies.
- Audit user permissions and review logs for anomalies.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate student status.
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, such as phishing, malware, and access control.
- Familiarity with Windows and macOS operating systems.
- Familiarity with collaboration tools like Microsoft 365, Zoom, and Slack.
- Beginner knowledge of hardware and software installation and desktop networking concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and maintain confidentiality.
- Majors considered include Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
Location & details#
- Location: On-site at the New York, NY office.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September – December).
- Commitment: 10 – 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: $18.40 per hour (subject to school internship policy requirements).
