Fall 2026 Democracy Undergraduate Internship

About the role#

The Brennan Center for Justice is seeking undergraduate interns for the Fall 2026 term to support the Democracy program. This is a paid, on-site internship based in the New York office. Interns will gain exposure to the center's work in areas such as voting rights, election reform, and judiciary policy through a mix of administrative support and substantive project involvement.

What you'll do#

• Provide administrative and clerical support, including filing, answering phones, coordinating meetings, and drafting routine correspondence.
• Assist with general research and support the rollout of organizational reports.
• Provide support for litigation and contribute to advocacy efforts across projects related to voting, elections, government, and federal reform.
• Attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and program discussions.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as an undergraduate student.
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work as an independent, detail-oriented, and organized self-starter.
• A demonstrated passion for issues related to democracy and justice.
• Experience with data is considered helpful.
• Preferred majors include Political Science, Public Health, Sociology, History, and Communications.

Location & details#

• Location: New York, NY (On-site).
• Term: Fall 2026 (September – December).
• Commitment: Approximately 10 – 20 hours per week.
• Compensation: $18.40 per hour (subject to school internship policies regarding credit and payment).
