Fall 2026 Legal Department Undergraduate Internship

About the role#

The Brennan Center for Justice is seeking an undergraduate intern for the Fall 2026 term to support the Legal Department in Washington, D.C. This role provides exposure to legal research, policy analysis, and strategic legal thinking by working directly with the General Counsel and the legal team.

What you'll do#

• Provide administrative support to the Legal Department, including coordinating meetings and drafting correspondence.
• Assist with data entry related to past and current litigation matters.
• Compile template litigation pleadings and court rules.
• Research special projects as assigned by the team.
• Attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and program discussions.
• Help systematize and enhance department recordkeeping systems related to compliance and litigation.

What you'll need#

• Current undergraduate student status.
• Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work as an independent self-starter with a high level of integrity and discretion.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Interest in the mission of the Brennan Center for Justice.

Location & details#

• Location: Washington, D.C.
• Term: Fall 2026 (September – December 2026).
• Work Modality: On-site.
• Commitment: Approximately 10 – 20 hours per week.
• Compensation: $18.40 per hour (subject to school internship policy requirements).
