Fall 2026 Liberty and National Security Undergraduate Internship

About the role#

The Brennan Center for Justice is seeking undergraduate students for the Fall 2026 Liberty and National Security (LNS) internship. This role provides research, administrative, and clerical support to staff working on issues such as surveillance, artificial intelligence, religious and racial profiling, ideological targeting, and counter-terrorism initiatives. Interns have the opportunity to attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and program discussions.

What you'll do#

• Conduct research on program-specific issues.
• Track relevant court cases and legislation.
• Copy-edit and cite check research papers, blogs, and op-eds.
• Assist with scheduling, mailing publications, and maintaining contact lists.
• Provide general administrative support, including filing, answering phones, coordinating meetings, and drafting correspondence.
• Assist with travel arrangements, expense reports, and reception desk coverage.

What you'll need#

• Current undergraduate student status.
• Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
• Strong organizational skills with a detail-oriented approach.
• Ability to work independently and manage evolving responsibilities.
• Relevant academic background in Political Science, International Relations, Communications, History, Sociology, or Criminal Justice.

Location & details#

• Location: New York, NY (On-site).
• Term: September – December 2026.
• Commitment: Approximately 10 – 20 hours per week.
• Compensation: $18.40 per hour (subject to school internship policies regarding payment and credit).
