The Active Implantable Systems (AIS) group focuses on designing and developing technologies to monitor, diagnose, and treat irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest. As an R&D Hardware Engineer Intern, you will contribute to the development of implantable medical devices and the external equipment used to communicate with them. You will gain exposure to the full scope of medical device development while working alongside cross-functional teams to address unmet clinical needs.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to the design and development of implantable medical devices that support the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions.
- Develop electrical designs for external medical equipment that communicates with implantable devices.
- Support the testing and validation of electrical designs.
- Apply creative problem-solving to engineering challenges to advance cardiac care innovation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to gain insight into the medical device development lifecycle.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Engineering (with an EE emphasis).
- Academic status as a rising junior, rising senior (graduating Dec 2026 – May 2028), a graduating senior (May 2026) continuing to graduate school, or a current graduate student. You must have at least one semester of school remaining after the internship.
- Practical experience with electronics, circuit analysis, and circuit design in academic or professional settings.
- Proficiency with LabVIEW is required.
- Ability to start on May 18th or May 26th, 2026, and commit to a 12-week internship.

- Employment Type: Full-time, paid internship.
- Requirements: Must have reliable transportation to and from the workplace. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
