About the role#
The Clinical Nursing Student role at Maryview Medical Center provides direct patient care and clinical exposure. You will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to gain experience through job shadowing and the provision of care within your scope of practice. This position is part of the Oncology Services department.
What you'll do#
- Support the nursing process under the direction of an RN.
- Provide basic patient care, including vital signs, personal hygiene, mobility assistance, feeding, and hydration.
- Act as a liaison between patients and the nursing staff to report changes or concerns.
- Participate in hand-off reports and patient data collection.
- Document care accurately and in a timely manner.
- Develop critical thinking skills and seek out educational opportunities.
- Perform delegated tasks once your competency is validated.
- Utilize clinical technology as required and escalate concerns through the proper chain of command.
- Provide high-level customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a nursing program.
- Completion of at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
- Ability to communicate clearly and follow directions from the healthcare team.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards, infection prevention, and healthcare regulations.
- BLS certification is preferred.
- Recent experience in an acute or long-term care facility is preferred.
- Training in the EPIC Electronic Health Record system is preferred.
