About the role#
The Clinical Nursing Student role at Maryview Medical Center provides direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. This position is designed to offer clinical experience through job shadowing and the provision of care within your scope of practice. You will work within the Oncology Services department to support patient needs and develop your professional skills.
What you'll do#
- Support the nurse in applying the nursing process and developing critical thinking skills.
- Provide basic patient care including comfort, vital signs, hygiene, and mobility assistance.
- Act as a liaison between patients and the nursing staff to report changes or concerns.
- Participate in patient data collection, hand-off reports, and accurate documentation.
- Perform delegated tasks once your competency is validated.
- Utilize clinical technology and escalate concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
- Deliver high-level customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
- Seek out educational opportunities to enhance your nursing practice.
What you'll need#
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a nursing program.
- Completion of at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate clearly with the healthcare team.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards and infection prevention.
- BLS certification is preferred.
- Recent experience in acute or long-term care is preferred.
- Training in the EPIC Electronic Health Record system is preferred.
