About the role#
Join the Health Care Value Strategic Informatics and Program Performance team for a summer internship. You will use your data science and statistical analytics knowledge to help the business understand program performance and identify new opportunities. The team evaluates programs to determine if they generate cost savings, reduce inpatient and emergency care utilization, or offer opportunities for improvement.
What you'll do#
- Identify, collect, and maintain data for comprehensive program evaluation.
- Analyze data using techniques ranging from simple data aggregation to statistical models.
- Assist in preparing research materials to identify business problems and offer recommendations for solutions.
- Support leaders on projects designed to enhance organizational efficiency.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of BCBSM business, products, programs, and data.
- Complete projects that are well documented and repeatable.
- Create documents to summarize findings and present them to stakeholders when necessary.
- Participate in department meetings, team building events, and networking opportunities.
- Engage in volunteer activities and community outreach.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student with a 3.0 GPA or higher, enrolled for the duration of the internship.
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Health Care, Information Systems, or a related field. A Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
- Working knowledge of data languages including SAS, R, Python/PySpark, and SQL.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
