Student Estimator

About the role#

Bird Construction is seeking a Student Estimator for a 4, 8, or 12-month co-op position starting in September 2026. This internship provides an opportunity to manage specific areas of responsibility with support from an assigned supervisor and technical mentor.

What you'll do#

• Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand project scope and requirements.
• Conduct take-offs from project drawings and develop material and labor quantity estimates.
• Use estimating software to prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, and subcontractor quotes.
• Assist in the preparation of bid proposals by organizing and compiling relevant estimating information.
• Collaborate with senior estimators and project managers to review and analyze bids for accuracy and competitiveness.
• Maintain and update cost databases, historical data, and estimating resources.
• Support the team in tracking project bids, market trends, and departmental meetings.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a degree program such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or Construction Management.
• Completion of at least one semester of education following the internship.
• A minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to lead and operate in an environment where change happens frequently.
• Ability to forge and maintain positive professional relationships.
• A sense of urgency and a commitment to achieving goals.
