Student Estimator

About the role#

Bird Construction is offering a 4 or 8-month co-op position for a Student Estimator starting in September 2026. This role provides hands-on experience in construction estimating, allowing you to manage specific responsibilities while receiving guidance from a supervisor and technical mentor. You will be part of a team focused on project analysis, cost preparation, and bid development.

What you'll do#

• Review project plans, specifications, and related documentation to determine project scope.
• Perform take-offs from drawings to calculate material and labor quantities.
• Use estimating software to prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, and subcontractor quotes.
• Assist in compiling and organizing information for bid proposals.
• Collaborate with senior estimators and project managers to analyze bids for accuracy and competitiveness.
• Maintain cost databases and track project opportunities or market trends.
• Participate in departmental meetings and stay informed on industry construction technologies.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a relevant degree program such as Civil Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, or Operations Management.
• Completion of at least one semester of education following the internship.
• A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to adapt and operate effectively in a changing environment.
• A valid work permit allowing employment with Bird Construction.
• Submission of a current transcript with your application.
