About the role#
As a Flood Engineering Intern, you will join the Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics (CAT E&A) team in San Ramon. This is a 12-week paid internship focused on natural catastrophe model development and risk evaluation. You will work on projects that align with your interests in hydrology, hydraulic modeling, and data science while learning about the insurance industry.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to projects within the CAT E&A team.
- Work on flood-related assignments involving computer programming, geospatial computing, and statistics.
- Gain hands-on experience in flood catastrophe modeling.
- Support the development of analytical solutions and quantitative loss insights for underwriting.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program for water resources, environmental, civil, or a related engineering field.
- Expertise in surface-water processes and hydrologic or hydraulic modeling.
- Proficiency in Python, R, or a similar analytical programming language.
- Knowledge of probability, statistics, and quantitative methods for risk analysis.
- Experience with GIS and spatial analysis, including large-scale raster or vector datasets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- A customer-focused mindset with a commitment to integrity and excellence.
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools is a plus.
