Tax Intern, State and Local Tax - Summer 2027

About the role#

As a State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern, you will work alongside experienced tax professionals to gain hands-on experience in tax methodology and compliance. This role provides an opportunity to apply your educational background to real-world tax issues while receiving coaching and direction from firm leadership. You will participate in client-facing activities and contribute to the firm's tax services.

What you'll do#

• Conduct basic research and analysis regarding state and local tax issues.
• Utilize tax software to complete basic tax returns, filings, and documentation.
• Assist in drafting responses to notices from state taxing authorities.
• Prepare models for tax and unclaimed property exposure analysis.
• Participate in client meetings alongside experienced tax professionals.
• Draft tax memoranda and assist in the preparation of tax presentations.
• Monitor current tax law changes and apply them to assigned tax returns.
• Support the preparation, filing, and completion of voluntary disclosure agreements.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field, or enrollment in a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Master of Laws (LLM) program.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to multitask and work effectively both independently and within a team.
• Prior internship or work experience in an accounting setting is preferred.
• Leadership experience and participation in college-level accounting or finance organizations are preferred.
