Tax Intern, State and Local Tax

About the role#

The Tax Intern, State and Local Tax (SALT) will work alongside experienced tax professionals to gain hands-on experience in tax methodology and compliance. This summer internship focuses on researching tax issues, assisting with client filings, and utilizing industry-standard software to support our tax services team.

What you'll do#

• Complete basic research on federal and state tax issues.
• Participate in the preparation, filing, and completion of voluntary disclosure agreements for sales and use tax, income tax, and unclaimed property.
• Draft tax memoranda and other supporting documentation.
• Assist in drafting responses to notices from state taxing authorities and prepare models for tax exposure analysis.
• Utilize Caseware, Go Systems, and other tax-related software to complete basic tax returns under supervision.
• Participate in client meetings and audit defense activities as appropriate.
• Monitor current tax law changes and ensure all necessary data for filing requirements is obtained.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Business Administration, or a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Master of Laws (LLM) program.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to research taxation topics and compose effective analysis.
• Ability to multi-task and work effectively both independently and within a team.
• Preferred: Leadership experience, prior internship or work experience in an accounting setting, and participation in college-level accounting or finance organizations.
