About the role#
As a Tax Intern in Core Tax Services, you will work under the supervision of experienced professionals to prepare tax returns and extensions. This role offers a hands-on perspective on our firm practices and provides an opportunity to build relationships within the accounting field.
What you'll do#
- Prepare tax returns and extensions while ensuring compliance with firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
- Use tax software to complete simple returns and perform quarterly estimates.
- Collect data for filing requirements and organize files to minimize rework.
- Assist with responses to IRS notices and the projection of year-end filings.
- Support income tax provision components and apply policies regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
- Monitor tax law and client developments and share your findings with the service team.
- Research tax information using online tools and recommend methods to maximize client benefits.
- Take initiative on engagement letters and due dates.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or a relevant field.
- Active pursuit of school credits to become a CPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team setting.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Leadership experience is preferred.
- Pursuing a masters degree in Accounting or a relevant field is preferred.

- This is an on-site internship based in Madison, Wisconsin.
- The term for this position is Winter 2028.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
