Assurance Intern - Summer 2027 (Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo)

About the role#

As an Assurance Intern, you will participate in a structured on-the-job training program to build your foundational knowledge of accounting and auditing. You will work alongside experienced team members to gain hands-on experience with audit methodology and client engagements. This role requires a commitment to learning and the ability to contribute to a professional team environment.

What you'll do#

• Participate in structured training to become familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
• Assist with various stages of the audit process using BDO-specific methodology.
• Provide support functions to audit staff during client engagements.
• Communicate with clients, creditors, banks, and related parties regarding audit issues.
• Prepare and document work in working papers using firm-specific tools and templates.
• Contribute ideas to audit teams and complete an assigned research project to present to a panel of professionals.

What you'll need#

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Accounting.
• Actively pursuing school credits required to become a CPA.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting and follow instructions as directed.
• Pursuing a Master's degree in Accounting and leadership experience are preferred.
