About the role#
This is a part-time, year-round internship opportunity within the R&D Engineering department at BD. You will assist in the design, development, and implementation of new products, processes, test methods, and equipment. The role involves working in both office and laboratory environments.
What you'll do#
- Apply engineering principles to various assignments.
- Initiate and track documentation through approval cycles.
- Provide technical support on components, materials, systems, and equipment.
- Participate in multi-functional teams.
- Assist in developing physical and functional test requirements.
- Write and review protocols, reports, and data.
- Conduct testing as outlined in protocols and methods.
- Complete validation studies on equipment and processes.
- Complete design controls and analyze design inputs.
- Prepare and present project updates and technical discussions.
- Maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Manufacturing.
- Minimum standing as a college sophomore.
- Ability to work independently.
- Basic technical writing and software application skills.
- Competence in reading drawings and understanding engineering principles.
- Ability to perform testing per written directions.
- Understanding of basic descriptive statistics.
- Basic problem-solving skills with the ability to collect and analyze data to derive conclusions.
- Oral and written presentation skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Modality: Hybrid and on-site. This role requires a minimum of 4 days of in-office presence per week.
- Schedule: This is a part-time role. The target is 20 hours per week during school semesters, with the option to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
- Physical requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally, as well as standing, bending, stooping, and reaching.
