Urban REAP Aquaponics Assistant - BC

About the role#

The Urban REAP Aquaponics Assistant supports the management of the aquaponics system to ensure maximum health and productivity. This position involves working with the Urban REAP Director to research and implement strategies for water quality and pest management. This is an off-campus, paid student worker position requiring Federal Work-Study eligibility and reliable transportation.

What you'll do#

• Assist with daily aquaponics operations, including the care of fish and plants.
• Conduct regular water quality testing and maintenance.
• Monitor plant health and execute integrated pest management strategies.
• Develop and implement planting plans to provide produce for local vendors.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records for system operations.
• Create educational materials for community members regarding aquaponics.
• Assist with various operational projects as needed.

What you'll need#

• A background in Environmental Studies, Ecology, Biology, Horticulture, Chemistry, or Sustainable Agriculture.
• Proficiency in computer systems, including Drive, Square, and Outlook.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with community members, store visitors, and tour groups.
• Ability to manage projects with punctuality and professionalism.
• Bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred.

• Location: Waco, Texas (Mission Waco Mission World).
• Term: Fall 2026.
• Work Schedule: 10-20 hours per week, with flexible hours.
• Pay Rate: $11.00 - $12.50 per hour.
