About the role#
The Mayborn Museum is seeking a Summer Makerspace Student Worker to support the Design Den and various STEM programs. This position involves direct visitor engagement, activity facilitation, and program evaluation within the museum environment.
What you'll do#
- Staff the Design Den makerspace during open hours, including activity facilitation, prototyping, and preparing supplies.
- Provide customer service to museum visitors using established making and tinkering strategies.
- Support the Museum Engagement Spark Team and volunteers by ensuring they are trained and comfortable in the space.
- Assist with STEM events and programs, from gathering supplies to set-up and tear-down.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative observations at STEM events and assist with documentation.
- Research innovative methods to evaluate Design Den and STEM programming.
- Participate in regular reflection meetings to discuss tinkering practices.
- Help with general museum programming and coverage for the Museum Engagement team as needed.
- Maintain organization of storage areas and monitor supply inventory.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student, with a preference for majors in Public Health, Psychology, or Communications.
- Ability to provide high-quality customer service and engage effectively with museum visitors.
- Interest in STEM education, tinkering, and program evaluation.
- Capacity to support and collaborate with team members and volunteers.
