About the role#
This position supports the Mayborn Museum Makerspace, known as the Design Den, during the summer term. You will help create engaging experiences for visitors, manage supplies, and contribute to the evaluation of STEM programming. This role is based on-site in Waco, Texas.
What you'll do#
- Staff the Design Den during open hours, which includes setting up, tearing down, and testing activities.
- Facilitate hands-on making and tinkering experiences for museum visitors.
- Support student employees and volunteers to ensure they are prepared for their roles in the space.
- Organize supply closets and monitor inventory levels.
- Assist with broader STEM events, including gathering materials and leading activities.
- Document STEM events through detailed qualitative and quantitative observations.
- Research new ways to evaluate museum programs and participate in regular reflection meetings to discuss tinkering practices.
- Provide general support to the Museum Engagement team as needed.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a student, with a preference for majors in Public Health, Psychology, or Communications.
- Ability to provide customer service while engaging visitors in a museum setting.
- Interest in STEM education and tinkering.
