About the role#
This position is based in the Design Den at the Mayborn Museum. You will help visitors engage with new materials, tools, and ideas through making and tinkering activities. This is an active, on-your-feet role that requires regular interaction with museum guests.
What you'll do#
- Greet visitors and orient them to the Design Den.
- Provide customer service and assist visitors with their projects.
- Encourage problem solving and help guests use tools safely.
- Manage supplies, including setting up, restocking, and organizing storage areas.
- Support teen volunteers to ensure they are trained and comfortable in their tasks.
- Document visitor behavior through qualitative and quantitative observations.
- Research new ways to evaluate programs and use recycled materials in projects.
- Learn to use various making tools such as sewing equipment, woodworking tools, and leather working supplies.
What you'll need#
- Experience providing high quality customer service.
- Ability to manage supplies and maintain an organized workspace.
- Familiarity with making tools or a willingness to learn.
- Skill in documenting observations and assisting with project research.
- Preference for students in Art, Graphic Design, Architecture, Media Studies, Human Resources, or Environmental Engineering.

- Location: Waco, Texas.
- Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- This is a paid, on-site, part-time position.
