Student Worker - Mayborn Museum Makerspace Student Worker - Fall

About the role#

As a student worker in the Design Den, you will facilitate educational activities and help museum visitors engage with new materials, tools, and ideas. This is an on-your-feet position that requires maintaining a welcoming environment and ensuring high-quality customer service for all guests.

What you'll do#

• Greet visitors and orient them to the Design Den space.
• Assist visitors with projects and encourage creative problem-solving.
• Manage daily operations, including setting up, re-stocking, organizing supplies, and performing end-of-day resets.
• Monitor supply inventories and communicate with the Museum Engagement Team when items run low.
• Support and train teen volunteers as needed.
• Document visitor behavior through detailed qualitative and quantitative observations.
• Research innovative ways to evaluate programs and utilize recycled materials in tinkering projects.
• Gain familiarity with various making tools, including woodworking, sewing, fiber crafts, leather working, and paper crafts.
• Assist the Museum Engagement team with general programming and Spark Team duties as assigned.

What you'll need#

• Commitment to providing high-quality customer service.
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn making tools and programs.
• Ability to assist visitors with projects and encourage problem-solving.
• Experience or aptitude for managing and organizing supplies.
• Skill in documenting observations and reflecting on program outcomes.
• Majors preferred include Art, Graphic Design, Architecture, Media Studies, Human Resources, or Environmental Engineering.

• Location: Mayborn Museum, Waco, Texas.
• Term: Fall 2026.
• Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays.
• Status: Paid, on-site student position.
