About the role#
The School of Engineering and Computer Science is looking for a student worker to join the IT support group. You will help design and build database-driven web systems to improve academic processes and departmental operations. This position involves both software development and general IT troubleshooting.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and maintain PHP-based web applications.
- Create user interfaces that are functional, intuitive, and accessible.
- Test and debug applications to ensure they are reliable and secure.
- Provide general IT support and troubleshooting for the school.
- Assist with various projects related to business operations.
- Participate in project planning meetings and follow software development best practices.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive student and academic data.
What you'll need#
- Current student status in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with SQL database design and querying.
- Proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
- Preferred experience includes MySQL, MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, Git, and web application security.
Location & details#
- Location: Rogers Engineering and Computer Science, Waco, Texas.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Schedule: Flexible, 10 to 20 hours per week based on your class schedule.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: Paid position ($10-$15 per hour based on experience).
- Preference is given to students who qualify for Federal Work Study.
