About the role#
The Creative Arts Assistant supports the afterschool programs for children and youth at Mission Waco. This role involves teaching art, music, and dance to program participants, with potential opportunities to work with adult populations at Manna House and My Brother’s Keeper. This position requires eligibility for Federal Work-Study and reliable transportation for off-campus work.
What you'll do#
- Teach art, music, and dance to children and youth program participants.
- Recruit students to participate in creative arts programming.
- Collaborate with staff to organize performances, productions, and semester-end Creative Arts Showcases.
- Supervise volunteers and interns assisting with classes.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of creative arts facilities.
- Promote arts programming to the youth and the broader low-income population in the Waco community.
What you'll need#
- Minimum of one year of training or performance experience in art, music, or dance.
- Prior experience teaching and working with children or youth.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate compassionately under pressure.
- Ability to represent organizational values to all program participants.
- Availability to work 15 to 20 hours per week, typically during weekday afternoons and early evenings.
- Preferred majors include Art, Communications, Psychology, or Human Resources.
