About the role#

This graduate student position supports the daily operations of the Baylor Sciences and Facilities department. You will assist in the management of the Molecular Bioscience Center (MBC), gaining experience in operating complex scientific instrumentation, technical troubleshooting, and professional communication with students and faculty.

What you'll do#

• Operate and maintain complex scientific instruments, including the BioRad Gel Doc, BioRad ChemiDoc, Cytiva Typhoon, QuantStudio6 QPCR, Northern Lights flow cytometer, and cell sorters.
• Train researchers on the proper use of autoclaves, molecular imagers, and analyzers.
• Maintain BSL2 shared cell culture facilities, including performing scheduled decontamination.
• Perform ongoing maintenance and calibrations for specialized equipment.
• Design, redesign, and draft training modules for researchers.
• Participate in or lead laboratory classes and facility tours.
• Ensure main laboratory spaces remain clean and organized.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as a graduate student in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Professional communication skills, with the ability to provide instruction and feedback in training or corrective situations.
• High level of research instrument knowledge and prior experience working with complex scientific equipment.

• Location: BSB C305R, 101 Bagby Ave, Waco, TX.
• Work Modality: On-site.
• Schedule: Minimum of 10 hours per week with flexible scheduling.
• Term: Summer 2026.
