About the role#
The Baylor Sciences and Facilities department is seeking a Graduate Student Employee to support the daily operations of the Molecular Bioscience Center (MBC). This role involves hands-on experience with advanced scientific instrumentation, technical maintenance, and academic support for students and faculty. The position requires a minimum of 10 hours per week with a flexible schedule.
What you'll do#
- Operate and maintain complex scientific instruments, including molecular imagers, analyzers, and cell sorters.
- Assist in training researchers on the proper use of equipment such as autoclaves, molecular imagers, and QPCR systems.
- Maintain BSL2 shared cell culture facilities, including performing scheduled decontamination.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and calibrations for specialized equipment like flow cytometers and cell sorters.
- Design, redesign, and draft training modules for researchers.
- Participate in or lead classes and facility tours within the MBC.
- Ensure main laboratory spaces remain clean and organized.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a graduate student in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Professional communication skills for training, teaching, and corrective situations.
- High level of research instrument knowledge.
- Experience working with complex scientific instruments.
