About the role#

The Baylor Sciences and Facilities department is seeking a Graduate Student Employee to support the daily operations of the Molecular Bioscience Center (MBC). This role focuses on the operation and maintenance of complex scientific instrumentation, as well as the training and instruction of students and faculty. This position is ideal for graduate students in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering looking to gain experience in laboratory management and technical instruction.

What you'll do#

• Operate and maintain complex scientific instruments, including molecular imagers (BioRad Gel Doc, BioRad ChemiDoc, Cytiva Typhoon), QPCR systems (QuantStudio6), and cell sorters (Northern Lights, FACSMelody, Sony).
• Perform ongoing maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshooting for specialized research equipment.
• Maintain BSL2 shared cell culture facilities, including scheduled decontamination and ensuring lab spaces remain clean and organized.
• Train researchers on the proper use of laboratory equipment, including autoclaves and molecular analyzers.
• Assist in designing, redesigning, and drafting training modules for researchers.
• Participate in and potentially lead laboratory classes and facility tours.

What you'll need#

• Current graduate student status in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
• High level of research instrument knowledge and prior experience working with complex scientific equipment.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent professional communication skills, with the ability to provide instruction and feedback in training, teaching, and corrective situations.

• Location: BSB C305R, Waco, Texas.
• Schedule: Minimum of 10 hours per week with flexible hours.
• Term: Summer 2026 and ongoing.
• Modality: On-site.
