About the role#
This graduate student position supports the daily operations of the Molecular Biology Core (MBC) at Baylor University. The role involves hands-on work with specialized laboratory equipment, researcher training, and facility maintenance. This is a paid, part-time, on-site position requiring a minimum of 10 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Operate and maintain complex scientific instruments, including the BioRad Gel Doc, BioRad ChemiDoc, Cytiva Typhoon imager, and QuantStudio6 QPCR.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and calibrations for specialized equipment such as the Northern Lights flow cytometer and the FACSMelody and Sony cell sorters.
- Train researchers on the proper use of laboratory equipment, including autoclaves and molecular imagers.
- Maintain BSL2 shared cell culture facilities, including scheduled decontamination.
- Assist in designing, redesigning, and drafting training modules for researchers.
- Participate in or lead classes and tours held within the MBC.
- Ensure main lab spaces remain clean and organized.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a graduate student in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Professional communication skills for training, teaching, and corrective situations.
- High level of research instrument knowledge and prior experience working with complex scientific equipment.
