About the role#
Base Power Company designs, builds, and installs its own battery hardware. This vertical integration means that a single missing part can stop production. As a Material Planning Intern, you will own a specific set of parts and manage their supply chain from start to finish. You will translate production schedules into supplier signals and identify potential shortages weeks before they impact the factory floor. This role sits at the intersection of manufacturing, engineering, procurement, quality, and logistics.
What you'll do#
- Manage day-to-day material planning for assigned parts by running MRP and netting demand against inventory.
- Keep purchase orders aligned with the current build plan.
- Convert production plans into rolling forecasts for suppliers and track their commitments against actual arrivals.
- Identify supply risks and shortages, escalating issues with supporting data.
- Support material readiness for engineering changes and new parts.
- Analyze planning data including lead times, safety stock, and order quantities.
- Build and document one lasting process improvement, such as a dashboard or automated report.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for supply chain, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, business, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong spreadsheet skills and the ability to work with large, messy datasets.
- A genuine interest in how physical products are built.
- Clear, direct written communication skills for interacting with suppliers and internal teams.
- A bias toward action and the ability to follow through on tasks independently.

- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship based in Austin, Texas.
- The role operates on a rolling basis.
