About the role#
Barnes & Thornburg LLP is hiring Legislative Interns for its Indianapolis office to support the Government Services Practice. This role focuses on the first legislative session of the 54th Indiana General Assembly. You will work directly with partners and attorneys to manage client needs and legislative tracking. This is a full-time, on-site position.
What you'll do#
- Support attorneys throughout the legislative session.
- Research legislation, current statutes, and legislative proposals.
- Monitor and track the progress of bills, including attending committee hearings and events at the Indiana State Capitol.
- Draft client communications, talking points, alerts, and legislative update reports.
- Create client reports and presentations using customized legislative software.
- Help prepare a weekly legislative newsletter for clients.
- Assist clients with Day at the State House events.
What you'll need#
- A bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Knowledge of state governmental processes.
- Strong communication and public-speaking skills for interacting with a diverse clientele.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to be proactive, self-directed, and organized while managing time effectively.
- Previous experience with the Indiana General Assembly or government internships is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Indianapolis, Indiana.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 4, 2027, to April 30, 2027).
- Schedule: Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week, including evening hours as necessary.
- This position is paid.
