About the role#
This position is exclusively for current Baker Tilly Summer 2026 interns transitioning into a full-time Associate role. As a State & Local Tax (SALT) Associate, you will serve middle-market and Fortune 500 clients by providing strategic tax consulting services. You will work alongside firm leadership to address complex tax challenges, including income, franchise, and sales and use tax matters.
What you'll do#
- Provide strategic state and local tax consulting services to help clients ensure compliance and manage tax liabilities.
- Research state tax issues, including nexus determinations, taxability analyses, and liability quantification.
- Respond to notices issued by state and local taxing jurisdictions.
- Prepare and file state and local sales tax returns for multiple clients.
- Analyze large amounts of client data to support tax projects.
- Assist with due diligence, voluntary disclosure projects, and the preparation of tax memoranda.
- Manage multiple client engagements while maintaining accuracy in a deadline-oriented environment.
What you'll need#
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, law, or a related business field, with sufficient credits to sit for the CPA or Bar exam.
- Outstanding academic performance, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong leadership, project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in time management, communication, and interpersonal relationship building.
- Competency with the Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to work as a team player and adapt to project needs.

- This is a full-time, on-site position.
- Locations include Seattle, WA; Everett, WA; Milwaukee, WI; Dallas, TX; Tewksbury, MA; Rancho Cordova, CA; Irvine, CA; and Portland, OR.
- This role is open only to current Baker Tilly Summer 2026 interns.
