About the role#
Austin PBS is seeking a Weekly News Intern to support the news team on the weekly program Austin InSight and the community-based journalism project, Decibel. This role provides hands-on experience working alongside journalists and storytellers to cover local news. Interns will receive training and mentorship throughout the duration of the program.
What you'll do#
- Write segments for the weekly news show.
- Assist with studio and field productions, including staffing remote shoots.
- Pitch story ideas during weekly meetings.
- Coordinate studio and remote interviews.
- Create social media content based on existing packages.
- Research topical issues and current events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at an accredited college or university.
- Preferred majors include Journalism, Communications, or Media Studies.
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 13 weeks.
- Availability for 15 to 20 hours per week.

- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 7, 2026, through December 11, 2026).
- Modality: On-site with some hybrid work.
- Compensation: $20 per hour.
