About the role#
The Frederick Keys are looking for a Grounds Intern to join our team. This part-time, on-site internship provides hands-on experience in sports facility management. You will work directly with our Head Groundskeeper and Assistant Groundskeeper to maintain our playing surface and stadium grounds. This position is open only to current students who will receive academic credit for their participation.
What you'll do#
- Maintain the playing surface through mowing, field marking, fertilization, and irrigation.
- Perform daily tasks like mound and plate repair, edging, skin maintenance, and aerification.
- Set up for batting practice and various stadium events.
- Clean dugouts and bullpens while managing field trash.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown for all stadium events.
- Learn to work with synthetic and grass surfaces.
- Study the characteristics of irrigation systems, fertilizers, and soil conditioners.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
- Must be working for academic credit.
- Pursuing a degree in Facility Management, Turf Grass science, or a related sports field.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Capability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Experience or comfort with the safe operation of hand tools and small engine equipment.
- A strong work ethic and a desire to learn.
- Willingness to work outside in variable weather conditions.
- Prior knowledge of landscaping maintenance is a plus.
