Atomic Semi is seeking Rust Software Engineering Interns for the fall 2027 term. This role focuses on building high-performance tools for chip fabrication and design, blending real-time collaboration, computational geometry, GPU-accelerated visualization, and interactive data processing. You will work across the stack, from low-level systems and data synchronization to rich UI/UX editing tools. The work involves rapid iteration, with a philosophy of building and testing features in days or weeks.
What you'll do#
- Build deeply interactive editing tools with low-latency, CAD- or Figma-like interfaces for geometry manipulation, routing, annotation, and measurement.
- Develop production-grade Rust software targeting both native and WebAssembly environments.
- Architect real-time collaborative systems, including state synchronization, conflict resolution, and efficient data transmission.
- Implement efficient algorithms for geometry querying, graphs, and routing.
- Build high-performance rendering and visualization pipelines, ranging from GPU-accelerated rendering and spatial indexing to streaming massive datasets and rendering complex 3D fields.
- Profile and optimize CPU, GPU, memory, and network performance to ensure responsiveness and scale.
- Own major features end-to-end, working directly with process engineers and circuit designers to deliver intuitive tools.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or demonstrated exceptional skill in software engineering.
- Strong programming skills in Rust, or significant C++/systems programming experience with a strong desire to learn Rust quickly.
- Solid understanding of systems fundamentals, including memory, performance, and concurrency.
- Experience building non-trivial software projects from scratch, whether personal, academic, or professional.
- Interest in one or more of the following: real-time systems, computational geometry, algorithms, GPU programming, or visualization.
- A portfolio (such as a GitHub profile) demonstrating software engineering excellence and curiosity.
Location & details#
- Location: San Francisco, California.
- Term: Fall 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
