Infrastructure Software Engineering Intern - Fall

About the role#

Atomic Semi is seeking an Infrastructure Software Engineering Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role involves designing, building, and managing the on-premises backend infrastructure that powers a semiconductor fabrication facility. The work focuses on bare-metal Linux environments, systems-oriented programming, and close-to-the-metal engineering. This is a full-time, on-site position based in either San Francisco, CA or Austin, TX.

What you'll do#

• Build and evolve infrastructure-as-code tooling to manage complex, multi-environment deployments.
• Manage and maintain a fleet of on-premises servers to ensure high availability and resource utilization.
• Monitor system performance and health across diverse production workloads.
• Design and implement alerting systems to identify and resolve issues proactively.
• Develop automation to reduce operational toil and improve efficiency.
• Implement secure secret management and debug production issues across the stack.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver robust, scalable infrastructure solutions.

What you'll need#

• Pursuing a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or demonstrated equivalent skill in software engineering.
• Strong programming proficiency in Rust, Go, or other systems-oriented languages.
• Solid understanding of Linux systems, networking fundamentals, and distributed systems concepts.
• Experience building or maintaining non-trivial infrastructure, automation, or tooling projects.
• Interest in systems reliability, observability, infrastructure automation, or performance optimization.
