About the role#
The Management Intern for the Tempe Mayor's Office provides administrative support to the Mayor, the Mayor's Assistant, and the Chief of Staff. This is a part-time, 20-hour per week position designed for graduate students. The internship lasts up to 12 months, with the possibility of a one-year extension based on an annual review. Please note that continued employment is contingent upon active enrollment in a graduate program.
What you'll do#
- Assist with administrative office tasks, including drafting constituent responses, letters, and proclamations.
- Manage meeting requests and event invitations.
- Attend weekly Mayor’s Office and City Council staff meetings.
- Compile research, maintain departmental records, generate reports, and update contact lists.
- Collaborate with various City Departments to address mutual operational needs.
- Draft internal and external communications, including emails, talking points, and social media content.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program, preferably in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A High School Diploma and at least two years of relevant experience.
- Strong written communication skills, as selected candidates will complete a writing assessment.
- Excellent customer service and relationship management abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with computer programs for tracking, budgeting, and reporting, such as Microsoft Office.
Location & details#
- Location: Tempe, Arizona.
- Work Modality: On-site, primarily at Tempe City Hall.
- Schedule: 20 hours per week, with potential for nights and weekends based on departmental needs.
- Compensation: This is a paid position.
