About the role#
The Child Development Lab (CDL) at Arizona State University in Tempe is seeking a Child Development Intern to support the daily operations of our preschool classroom. This full-time, on-site position involves working directly with children between the ages of two and five years. You will work under the guidance of the Child Development Associate or Assistant Professional to facilitate early education curriculum and maintain a supportive learning environment.
What you'll do#
- Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, including indoor and outdoor play, group activities, and routines such as meal and rest times.
- Model professional language, behavior, and presence to children, families, and staff.
- Assist in maintaining a healthy and safe classroom environment, including participation in emergency procedures and general housekeeping tasks.
- Develop and maintain positive communication with families, including daily updates and attendance at parent functions such as picnics and visiting days.
- Support the training and interaction of student workers and volunteers in the classroom.
- Practice positive guidance techniques to help children develop self-regulation and respect for cultural and individual differences.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree in Child or Human Development, Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, or a closely related field is preferred.
- At least 4 months of prior experience working with children ages 0 to 5 years in a center-based child care, Head Start, or early childhood education program is preferred.
- Knowledge of early childhood developmental learning methodologies and curriculum guidelines.
- Skill in developing creative activities with limited resources and materials.
- Ability to work in an environment subject to noise and frequent exposure to contagious diseases.
- Capability to perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
