About the role#
Ardurra is hiring an Aviation Planner Intern for the summer of 2027. This full-time position is based in Columbia, South Carolina. You will support engineering assignments that contribute to the planning, design, and construction of airport infrastructure. This internship provides exposure to real-world engineering work, builds technical skills, and helps you explore a career in the aviation engineering industry.
What you'll do#
- Assist with preparing plan details, outlines, and design components for airport infrastructure projects.
- Support the preparation of technical specifications and provide information for project documentation.
- Research design options and present findings to project managers or engineers.
- Review design drawings and contribute to quality control efforts.
- Prepare sections of technical memoranda and assist with project reports.
- Perform material quantity take-offs and contact vendors for budgetary quotes.
- Assist in the development of construction cost estimates for aviation projects.
- Support project managers by monitoring workload, identifying scope changes, and managing documentation.
- Perform field tests, measurements, and data collection to support design and construction.
- Assist with construction inspection and provide on-site project representation.
- Prepare daily field reports and contribute to construction oversight.
- Coordinate project-related communication and assist with client interactions under supervision.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary team members.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Bluebeam, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a solid work ethic.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work as a team member and independently.
- Exposure to AutoCAD or Civil 3D is preferred.
- Interest in airport design, aviation infrastructure, FAA standards, or transportation engineering is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship located on-site in Columbia, South Carolina.
- Work is generally conducted in a standard office setting with occasional field work.
- This role involves minimal to moderate physical activity, including handling items weighing up to 20 pounds.
