Arcadis is seeking a co-op student to join the Disaster and Climate Resilience Solutions team in Vancouver, British Columbia, for the Fall 2026 term. Working alongside technical and professional staff, you will contribute to projects spanning transportation, water and wastewater, urban planning, and government sectors. This role involves supporting climate risk assessments, resilience strategy development, and community engagement initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Conduct literature reviews and background research on climate hazards, vulnerabilities, disaster risk reduction, and adaptation best practices.
- Review Canadian and international case studies to identify lessons learned and emerging approaches.
- Support climate and hazard data collection, including organizing publicly available climate, geospatial, and vulnerability data.
- Develop maps and graphic materials for project presentations, reports, and community engagement.
- Support stakeholder engagement activities, including interviews with local authorities, Indigenous partners, and community representatives.
- Prepare technical content and translate information into accessible materials for municipal audiences and decision-makers.
What you'll need#
- Active pursuit of a BS, MS, or graduate degree in civil or environmental engineering, urban studies, development planning, geography, natural resources, public policy, or a related field.
- Familiarity with GIS software, such as ESRI or QGIS.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Experience with GIS or data analysis tools is considered an asset.
