About the role#
The Industrial Hygiene & Safety Intern will help anticipate, evaluate, and control health hazards at our mining operations. This is a project-based internship where you will own a core technical project from start to finish. You will gain hands-on experience and conclude your program with a presentation to our technical leadership.
What you'll do#
- Take ownership of a dedicated 12-week project, manage your timelines, and deliver a final technical report.
- Anticipate, recognize, and evaluate physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
- Design and execute industrial hygiene sampling plans.
- Document and maintain all exposure monitoring data and risk profiles.
- Lead the system set-up and administration of environmental health and safety software.
- Develop and deliver training to the Health, Safety, and Security staff.
- Manage the chemical inventory system and ensure Safety Data Sheets are updated.
- Oversee gas detection programs, including selection, calibration, maintenance, and training.
- Conduct a comprehensive confined space inventory.
- Provide support to the Mine Rescue team with training and equipment readiness.
- Perform regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Review and update Standard Operating Procedures for the North Bullfrog site.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a rising senior in an Undergraduate program or a final-year Master's student.
- Pursuing a degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Foundational understanding of industrial hygiene and occupational health and safety.
- Strong technical writing, reporting, and presentation skills.
- Ability to analyze datasets, draw logical conclusions, and present findings.
- A collaborative mindset with an eagerness to learn and ask questions.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- A valid driver's license.
