About the role#
Analytical Mechanics Associates is hiring a part-time intern to support the Flight Dynamics Research Facility at NASA Langley Research Center. This role focuses on the Entry Systems Modeling project, specifically designing models for free flight and forced oscillation testing. You will contribute to investigations of dynamic stability for blunt entry vehicles, providing data for trajectory simulation analysis.
What you'll do#
- Develop CAD models in .igs.stp, and native formats.
- Design oscillation configurations that include mounting interface locations at specified reference points.
- Create geometry for thermal inset fasteners to ensure reliable mounting to the balance sting.
- Build CAD solid models for free flight wind tunnel models using FDM 3D printing methods.
- Design models that allow for a movable center of gravity.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- At least 2 years of experience in CAD model development or 2 semesters of relevant CAD course work.
- Proficiency with .igs.stp, and native CAD formats.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence status.
