    About the role#

    Analytical Mechanics Associates is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the development of a lunar deployment mechanism. You will work within the Mechanical Systems Branch at NASA Langley Research Center to help build flight hardware and ground support equipment for a mission to the lunar surface. This is a part-time, paid position with a rolling start date.

    What you'll do#

    • Use PTC Creo to create parametric designs for airframes, space frames, and testing hardware.
    • Build smart models that adapt to project requirements.
    • Perform back-of-the-envelope structural sizing using beam theory and strength of materials.
    • Manage mass properties and iterate designs to minimize weight while maintaining structural integrity.
    • Create professional GD&T drawings for parts and assemblies to guide manufacturing and assembly.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a related engineering field.
    • Experience with CAD software, specifically PTC Creo or similar tools.
    • Foundational knowledge of statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and design for manufacturing.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain design choices and create assembly instructions.
    • Ability to create and present technical information using PowerPoint.
    • US citizenship or permanent residency is required due to ITAR regulations.

    • This position is based on-site in Hampton, VA.
