The American Heart Association is seeking a Scientific Journals Editorial Intern to support the scientific publishing team. This position offers hands-on experience in journal editorial office workflows, peer review processes, and the management of scientific documentation. Interns will work closely with staff to gain practical skills in a non-profit health organization setting.
What you'll do#
- Process submitted manuscripts through the peer review workflow.
- Track submissions for special issues or conference publications.
- Compile and review author and reviewer disclosure statements.
- Manage reprint permission requests and communicate with the journal publisher.
- Contribute to journals' social media activities as needed.
- Assist with documenting staff training materials and special projects.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a senior or graduate student in publishing, technical writing, biology, or related science fields.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational, project management, and customer service skills.
- Ability to communicate information accurately to diverse audiences.
- Experience with databases and electronic reporting tools is preferred.
- Familiarity with social media platforms is a plus.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 8, 2026 – December 11, 2026).
- Work Modality: Remote (must be performed within the United States).
- Time Commitment: 25 hours per week, with availability required on Wednesdays.
- Compensation: $23.00 per hour.
- Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
